Your planet is dying. A volunteer is needed to travel back in time and develop sentient life on the second planet. You cannot advance your own planet as this could have the effect of wiping you out of exsistence, but the distance between the two is so distant that even space travel has been very restricted. Your first job is to make sure that the amino acids necessary for human life remain intact. Without these life cannot exist.
